Well, here’s one for the books, #BollyTalkers.
You’ve heard of Comedy Central’s Roast, right? If you have not, it’s meant to be the exact opposite of a toast. Let me sum it up for you. The selected celebrity chosen to “honour” is subjected to jokes and insults by a few of their peers (most times involving, ahem, adult language) based on their personal lives or work. The roasting of the individual is not all bad, and does include genuine compliments and statements of admiration.
Now that we’re on the same page, let’s talk about the comedy group, All India Bakchod, who attempted a roast of their own.
Last December, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar were all roasted at the Mumbai stadium in front of 4,000 thoroughly amused people. Fellow B-Towners like Alia Bhatt, and Ranveer’s rumoured girlfriend Deepika Padkone, laughed along and took to Twitter to express how thrilled they were. When the video hit Youtube on January 29th, however, it was a totally different situation.
The video went viral and whilst some liked it, most of the comments were of anger and disgust, and soon, it was a trending topic on social media.
As per reports by Indian Express, there’s news of a first information report being filed as a result of a complaint by a CID inspector. The FIR has been registered with the Pune police against 14 people, (which include Ranveer, Arjun and Karan) for the use of “obscene and abusive language during the AIB Roast event.” The stadium in Mumbai where they held the roast was also given a notice.
Last #BollyTalks checked, AIB took the videos down, but they are still in hot water with the general public. Censor board member Ashoke Pandit was also not too happy when he saw them and made remarks about filmmaker Karan Johar and his mother. There is even a threat to ban his movies and any other with Ranveer and Arjun.
KJo’s response?
“Not your cup of tea...don’t drink it!!!”
We are guessing by that tweet that things will be heating-up. Stay tuned to #BollyTalks, we’ll keep you posted!
