T&TEC Tropical Angel Harps won the Panchutca 2014 competition which held by Pan Trinbago’s South/Central Region last Saturday. The chutney soca music competition took place at Guaracara Park, Point-a-Pierre. Angel Harps earned 440.25 points for its performance of Kanchan & Babla’s Bholo Bholo.
Others in winner’s row were Pan Elders with 439.5 points for its execution of another of Kanchan & Babla’s O Tynie Wynie, while Petrotrin Siparia Deltones ran third with Sundar Popo’s Kaisay Bannie amassing 437.5 points.
Thirteen steelpan ensembles of 15-20 players each vied for a total of $500,000 in prizes. The winner also received the Massive Gosine Roving Tent challenge trophy. Recognition was paid to the late Sundar Popo and Ras Shorty I (Garfield Blackman), exponents of the chutney soca art form.
Adjudicators were Michelle Huggins-Watts, Satya Sharma, Rishi Guyadeen and Sam Ranjitsingh. Panchutca 2014 was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Prizes will be distributed at a date and venue to be announced.
