The Queen’s Royal College Old Boys’ Association (OBA) presented a cheque of $110,000 to Queen’s Royal College (QRC) on April 11, during the school’s first assembly of the new school term.
In his first official duty as QRC’s newly-appointed vice-principal, Irrfan Mohammed received the cheque on behalf of the college from David Riley, communications officer of the QRC OBA, a release said. The cheque’s total represents the sum of disbursements made to the school by the Old Boys’ Association for the year 2016.
Highlighting the OBA’s long-standing commitment to QRC, OBA president Kenrick Harrinauth explained that the cheque was a representation of the OBA’s commitment to the college and, by extension, the young men who will ultimately benefit from the contribution.
“The success of Fete Royal 2016 and our other events—such as Chefs Royal, QRC OBA Annual Dinner and QRC Reunion & Family Day—allow us to contribute in a financial way; however, it’s our footprint over the last 82 years in all aspects of the educational life that leaves us greatly satisfied as a valued stakeholder to our academic institution,” Harrinauth explained.
QRC principal David Simon, who presided over the school-opening assembly, heaped plaudits on the OBA for its continued and unwavering support in the critical area of covering the salaries of the school’s substitute teachers. He further underscored the significance of the OBA’s contribution by highlighting the fact that a significant sum of the monies contributed has already been earmarked to ensure the much-needed repairs to the roof of the school’s 76-year-old Science Block.
QRC Fete Royal 2016 was held on January, 23. Now in its third year, the event has evolved not only into one of the standout all-inclusive entertainment events on the Trinidad Carnival calendar, but it has also become a staple on the QRC OBA’s calendar, the release said.
It is a fund-raising venture that has supported the organisation’s initiative to provide much-needed infrastructural development, human resource and overarching support to the college on an ongoing basis.
