The 2015 Chutney Soca Monarch was one of the most anticipated events of this year’s Carnival season.
Fans of the genre all over the world took full advantage of the technology provided by blink-bmobile to participate in this major event which culminated in the crowning of new Chutney Monarch Kings Rikki Jai and Ravi B.
Adding a huge level of interaction and audience participation to the judging process of the competition and in the spirit of giving power to the people, blink-bmobile enabled local and international fans to vote for their favourite artiste via text, which counted for 50 per cent of the final decision.
A release from the company said it also provided a forum for online voting via its bpartofit.com Web site.
This not only served as a platform whereby contestants garnered hundreds of added votes but it also gave thousands of viewers a chance to enjoy the CSM action on their desktops, tablets and smartphones via the live stream.
The network registered as much as 4,000 log ins from T&T, Guyana, the United States and Canada.
The Chutney Soca Monarch Finals which celebrated its 20th anniversary at Skinner Park in San Fernando created an exciting atmosphere with fireworks and scintillating performances by the region’s top talent.
This year the competition featured both the regular chutney soca category and a traditional chutney which each had ten contestants.
At the end of it all, the team of former Monarchs Rikki Jai and Ravi B were chosen as Kings of both categories for 2015 with their popular hits CSM 20 (Chutney Soca) and Chale Awoh (Traditional).
With this impressive victory the duo defeated top class contenders such as Rakesh Yankaran, Rasika Dindial, Nishard Mayrhoo, Nadia Batson, Anil Bheem, Crazy and former Chutney Soca Monarch KI.
In addition to being a sponsor for this major Carnival event, blink-bmobile added to the evening’s ambiance.
On hand was blink-bmobile VP Human Resources Harigobin Jhinkoo who presented the promoter and Southex CEO George Singh with a commemorative plague in honour of the competition’s 20th anniversary. He also presented artiste Nisha Ramsook with the blink-bmobile Emerging Artiste title for 2015.
Utilising its technological resources, the company was able to benefit Singh in his goal to take chutney soca to markets beyond the Caribbean region.
