A team of journalists from the United Kingdom (UK) have been in Tobago for the past two weeks filming for a documentary—A Place in the Sun.

The documentary, when completed, will be aired on Channel 4 in the UK.

Speaking with the T&T Guardian, associate producer Antonio Campos said in this episode for Tobago they assisted Trinidadian Iris Ford and her British husband Alan Ford in the search for their dream retirement home.

“Alan had never heard of Tobago before knowing Iris. However, now after visiting so many times, he has fallen in love with calypso music and loves the culture and the loud people. He feels the younger generation is very polite as well.”

Campos said the couple sees this move as starting phase two of their life together, “as they feel life is better in Tobago for someone who’s older.”

The Fords got married in Tobago and then made a decision to actually move to the island.

Campos said this is not the first time A Place in the Sun visited Tobago.

“Our first visit was over ten years ago, and already there all the crew fell in love with this place, the people, the food and the beaches,” he said.

In this particular series, the crew have also visited the following countries: Mainland Spain, Portugal, USA (Florida), Costa Rica, Barbados, Grenada and Gran Cayman.

“Generally, for each episode of the programme, the couple are shown five places found by the show’s production team. The presenter gives the couple useful local information relating to lifestyle, buying, running and maintaining a property in a particular location. After viewing each property the couple are asked for their opinions. At the end of the show they are asked if they have a favourite property and if they would like to buy it.” The rest of Campos’ team includes director Philippa Murphy, presenter Jonnie Irwin, Jonas (camera) and Sandy Miller (sound).
