Nekevah Rescue Centre will host a concert on November 7 at Divine Encounter Fellowship Ministries International, Ragoo Road, D’Abadie, in honour of International Children’s Day and in aid of battered women.
Founder Rev Dr Joycelyn Duncan said the nation’s children will be represented by 27 schools scheduled to participate in the event. She added, over 30 organisations in east Trinidad committed their support as sponsoring partners in the venture.
“So many children are affected by domestic violence, it gives pleasure to include them in this tribute,” Duncan told the T&T Guardian.
She said some of the entertainment will be provided by Trinity East Boys Orchestra, Arima Boys Government Primary choir, other vocalists and instrumentalists as well as a surprise guest.
Nekevah Rescue Centre is a registered NGO which was founded on October 19, 2006. It was inspired by an outreach effort by the Triumphant Women Ministry of Divine Encounter Fellowship Church, with a hotline made available to minister to affected women. That effort later evolved into a full-fledged rescue centre. This organisation is headed by a board of ten directors and managed by a committee of ten, all of whom are volunteers.
Duncan explained the mission of Nekevah Rescue Centre is to facilitate the rehabilitation of women through programmes aimed at reshaping their moral and ethical values, by providing help for their emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.
“We provide help by developing the financial management skills of our clients, and providing educational and recreational facilities, thus empowering them to build their lives, head better families and communities,” said Duncan. The centre also offers training programmes to help women enhance their opportunities for employment.
They also receive counselling services to build their self-esteem and healthy relationships.
