A Bollywood star in a sex racket? The winner of India’s national award for Best Child Artist, Shweta Basu Prasad, was arrested after she was caught in a prostitution racket at a hotel in Hyderabad over the weekend.
I know, #BollyTalks was shocked too. The arrest happened last Sunday and Shweta was taken to a government rehabilitation home where she will spend some time since the charge sheet will take ten days to be filed.
This is according to the senior inspector of Banjara Hills police station in Hyderabad who also said that they acted on a tip, and that others, including a Mumbai businessman, were also arrested in the same raid.
Prasad revealed in a statement that she made certain decisions for financial reasons: “I have made wrong choices in my career and I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All doors were closed and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money.
The actress who has done movies including Iqbal (2005), Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005), and popular television soaps Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki and Karishma Kaa Karishma has not had much work for about eight years and was also previously caught in “a compromising position” during a sting operation.
