Bollywood celebrities are no strangers to humanitarian causes and charitable works, and the latest trend seems to be donations. Donations, #BollyTalks? That sounds very “regular” to me, you say. Well, we are talking about the donation of body parts.
That’s right. Shilpa Shetty, actress turned entrepreneur is the latest on the list, and she has offered: her eyes.
She recently visited the Sonai village in the Ahmednagar district and made the pledge through Yashwant Samajik Pratisthan, a social organisation. She said that it would give her great satisfaction if someone could have vision from her eyes after she passes. Shilpa’s sister, Shamita made the same commitment prior to the actress.
Interestingly enough, this next actor is also someone who has donated his eyes for a worthy cause, but he may need some body parts of his own for his next gig. Sir Amitabh Bachchan will be doing a televised fiction series called Yudh and has undertaken some risky stunts using a heavy body rig against medical orders.
It’s been 30 years since Amitabh has worn one; he had an accident in 1982 on the set of Coolie after using one, and was since forbidden after the significant trauma he suffered.
“The director was trying to find a way out of the situation when Big B, realising how important the stunts with the body rig were, took an impromptu decision, slipped into the body rig and went right ahead with the stunts.”
