On August 10, the first Zone Out Teen Open Mic was hosted at Studio 66, 66 Sixth Street, Barataria.

The even was organised by secondary-school teacher Christopher Castagne and members of the spoken word collective, 2 Cents Movement.

Castagne said the idea to host the August holiday series came from some of his students.

“They felt like there was nowhere for them to go and nothing for them to do except go to the mall.

“They’re too young for clubs and too old for most summer camps,” he said.

Castagne also co-hosted the event with one of his students Darian Williams.

Teens from several schools in the East-West corridor and Port-of-Spain performed.

There were also special guest artistes including the rapso duo Kaiflo and Crystal Skeete of the 2 Cents Movement.

A second Zone Out will be held on August 24 at 5 pm at Studio 66
