It is perhaps the oldest football league in the land and its opening is traditionally an event of much pomp, ceremony and entertainment.
The Eddie Hart football league will have its 2013 opening on Sunday at 2.30 pm, at its Tacarigua grounds and beside football the launch will assume the look of a steelband festival.
Headed by former national Panorama champion Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars, other steelbands billed to perform include Junior Sammy Group of Companies Skiffle, NGC Couva Joylanders, Valley Harps, Sangre Grande Cordettes, Old Tech, birdsong Academy and Super Novas. DJ KC Klass is Class is also on the evening’s billing.
On the field 40 teams are listed to participate in what is expected to be a colourful march mast, to the strains of the T&T Police Service and Prisons bands. Four exhibition games will be played.
League founder former parliamentarian Eddie Hart said this week: “Sunday’s opening is the perfect family outing event and we expect the entire community to turn out in support, as well as visitors from across the nation.”
