“Tings we’z wear iz mark we skin” is a poignant line taken from the piece Skin which is a choreographic exploration by Dave Williams and company.

Skin from Press Play explores the mind-altering relationships people share with brands they dress themselves in. In this particular piece, spoken word is the soundtrack for a female and two male dancers.

As they weave into, carry and wear each other, the work personifies the “daily wranglings with whom and what we wear, and as whom and what we brand ourselves,” said a release from the production company.

The entire 45-minute long show is a crisp and darkly refreshing use of the dance medium to engage contemporary politics and our news media, the release said.

Williams, performer, writer and choreographer of Press Play states, “I’ve always been obsessed with news and art—is like food—they feed the soul—and, good or bad, we eventually become what you eat.”

Press Play runs at The Night Gallery, 33 Murray Street, Woodbrook, tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
