The Ziegfeld Follies will be coming to Port-of-Spain for Carnival 2014.
The elaborate Broadway theatrical production will be reenacted by the Just Friends...the fun band crew as its sixth Carnival presentation.
Band members will get a preview at the invitation-only launch on Sunday at the “camp,” 8 Brunton Road, St James. The fun begins at 6 pm. Road band DJ Crosby Sounds will be in attendance.
The sections will be inspired by the Folies Bergeres of Paris and based on the Ziegfeld Follies’ that were famous for the many beautiful chorus girls wearing elaborate costumes. Committee member Anne Marie Placide said; “They were elaborate productions with emphasis on women in various forms of costume, which were sometime very risqué. The black-face minstrel was also very popular at that time.”
The all-inclusive band placed sixth in the NCC/NCBA Medium Band of the Year competitions and is managed by a committee that includes Placide, Chris Humphrey and Earl Crosby.
