Woman power dominated the annual Mother’s Day show held at the Centre of Excellence on Saturday night. At the helm were two of Bollywood’s playback singers, Samir Date and Dipalee Somalya, who both sang either singles or duets of the famous songs by legendary Indian icon Mohammed Rafi. Some of the hits included Naina Barse, Jhumkaa Gira Re, Suhani Raat, Ye Mera Prem Patra, Jo Wada Kiya, Jhil Mil Sitaroka, Dewanna Hua Bada, Sau Sail Pehele and Lak Kaa Gales.

Indar Kanhai’s Trishul Indian Orchestra held the spotlight, with Kanhai rendering several Indian classics, singing solo and at times with his sister Nandini Kanhai and Nelisha Ali. Khanai’s 90-minute stay on stage was entertaining. In his usual style, he maintained total balance, was smooth and mellow. The show was not going to be complete without the late Sundar Popo’s immortal song titled Mother's Love which was rendered by junior chutney entertainer Anthony Batson.

Rafi Mohammed, noted East Indian promoter and cultural activist, said in each of his shows, whether it is Valentine, Mother’s or Father’s Day show, he organises his performers “all of whom offer professional presentations on the stage.” Also on stage was Canadian singing sensation Shewta Subram. Date has been described as a prolific stage performer throughout the world with concerts spanning from the Caribbean to USA, Canada and the East.

He has worked with India’s Yash Chopra, Asha Bhosle and other major Bollywood artistes. Somalya stormed the citadel of music at the age of nine years walking away with scores of coveted prizes and awards for her adeptness on stage.
